The BRCGS START! offers food safety assessment for small and medium-sized businesses.
This program defines requirements for the manufacture of processed foods and primary
products intended for private label, branded products and use by food and catering
companies.
The assessment only applies to products manufactured at the audit location. The program is
supported by several organizations and large retailers, providing small producers the
opportunity to place their products on the shelves of these large chains.
Additionally, it follows BRCGS standards and is aligned with the GFSI Global Markets
program, which have been shown to improve food safety and operational efficiency. There
are two levels of certification available. Certification includes public listing in the BRCGS
Directory and use of BRCGS logos to promote products and enhance brand reputation.
